The Florida Highway Patrol says a
Jacksonville police officer crashed into a stopped truck moments
after reading her laptop in her cruiser.
A Highway Patrol spokesman said Officer Amanda Meyer struck the
truck Monday morning that had stopped at a railroad crossing. The
spokesman said Meyer briefly glanced at her mounted laptop before
the accident.
Meyer suffered injuries to her left arm. She was taken to a
hospital but was later released. The truck driver was not injured.
No charges have been filed.
A sheriff's office official said there was no written policy
regarding the use of laptops by officers in transit, although
officers are told during training not to read or type on their
laptops while driving.
