Today U.S. Army Rangers from the First Battalion Seventy Fifth Ranger Regiment were honored for their actions in combat.
The Rangers who are stationed at Hunter Army Airfield recently returned from overseas.
Nine soldiers received Bronze Stars with Valor; others were awarded Joint Service Commendation Medals and numerous other awards.
One of the soldiers receiving a Bronze Star today was Staff Sergeant Joseph Strauf of Bravo Company.
Strauf quickly helped a fellow soldier who was seriously injured during a mission.
“It was a reaction. We train for that sort of scenario. I just kind of ran out and pulled him back to safety and tried to help the rest of my guys on the ground as best I could. Like I said it's exactly what we train for, it's really an honor to go out there and do it,” explains SSG Strauf.
This marks the 12th deployment of the Battalion to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.
