One of the most important things to consider before you get your party on this Saint Patrick's weekend is your transportation. It would be wise to designate a sober driver. Georgia has tough DUI Laws. There are two types of laws here. Attorney Doug Andrews breaks them down for us. First, DUI by being a less safe driver. "How less safe or how impaired. Any less safe. Any impaired. So on a scale of zero to 10 you better be a zero," says Doug. Andrews says the second way to prove you were driving under the influence in Georgia -- were you over the limit, a law in his opinion that basically punishes everybody. "If you're oh-8… and 3 beers can get you there... you're in violation of the law, and they call that a DUI." You need to understand that drinking and driving can cause danger to yourself and others. Here are the DUI penalties in Georgia. The maximum fine on a misdemeanor is $1,000 dollars, but if it's your third DUI you'll pay at least $5,000. On the first DUI there's also a mandatory 10 day jail sentence. 90 days in jail on your second DUI. Get a third- you'll spend 120 days in jail. All of this information is important not only for Saint Patrick's Day, but any time. Just remember have fun and drink responsibly. WSAV.com Keyword: “St. Pats” for more information.
