A steady stream of people made their way into the WSAV parking lot today to get rid of their personal papers-- like old bills, tax returns, and plastic credit cards. WSAV teamed up with ShredEX and Goodwill for Data Destruction Day. Many people, concerned about the growing problem of identity theft, turned out for the free event. Data Destruction Day not only gives folks a chance to safely dispose of personal papers, but it also helps the environment. Garth Garrett, of ShredEX, says every ton of paper saves 17 trees and three thousand gallons of fresh water. About 22 thousand pounds of paper were shredded and will be recycled. Goodwill also wiped computer hard drives clean and collected old computers-- some of which will be resold in Goodwill's thrift store. Keep watching WSAV for our next scheduled Data Destruction event.
