Would you be upset if someone planned to open a strip club in your neighborhood?
Then, you may understand what's happening in one Midtown Savannah Neighborhood where such a plan has been floated.
It would be in the building at 41st and Bull Street that once housed club exclusive, a controversial place in its own right. That shut down last January.
News Three Community Reporter Alice Massimi says -- many neighbors prefer the doors stay closed.
Jared Collins says he moved to the Starland Neighborhood in mid Savannah because it was up and coming.
“I would describe this neighborhood as a very nice neighborhood, very friendly,” says Collins.
Which is why Collins was shocked when we told him about plans for a strip club around the corner.
“My immediate reaction is disgust. I just moved here about a month ago settling down in Savannah and I really like the area and neighborhood,” says Collins.
Collins is not alone...many others we spoke with say a strip club is not welcome....
But here's the thing this neighborhood isn't even zoned for strip clubs yet the property owners are continuing to go through with their request.
Calling the establishment “G-Strings” it's something that got Alderman Van Johnson laughing.
“How many people would want a strip club next to their home? again that's something we have to consider,” Alderman Johnson explains.
Also on the list to consider is the history of the location... less than a year ago a man was killed right outside what was then known as Club Exclusive.
“I believe a strip club doesn't produce the kind of neighborhood that we want to live in,” states Collins.
This afternoon, the new club owners didn't want to comment after earlier telling us they've changed their mind and want to open a sports club.
The city council will take the issue up at the beginning of December.
