It's been almost two years since the deadly explosion at the Imperial Sugar Plant in Port Wentworth... claiming 14 lives and injuring forty more.
Now, after 22 months, operations are nearly back to 100%.
Imperial spent more than two hundred million dollars on the state of the art facility.
They're already shipping out granulated sugar and hope by the end of next week to be shipping out brown and powdered.
"We've invested, we've studied, and we are changing the way we produce sugar and we are leading that for the industry. We are setting an example and we are a model for others to follow. It's unfortunate that we are doing that after a tragedy as opposed to before our tragedy," says Imperial Sugar’s CEO John Sheptor.
Sheptor tells News Three that next up are the trials regarding the OSHA Fines at both the Port Wentworth and Gramercy, Louisiana Plants.
Also, the lawsuits filed by victims and their family members are expected to go to trail sometime this spring.
