WASHINGTON, DC (NBC) - Suicides among active-duty army troops are on track to set a new record.
So far this year, the Army says there have been 133 suicides.
That's seven short of last year's record of 140.
The 133 reported suicides include the national guard and reserves between january and october.
A new survey found morale is down among troops in afghanistan, where they're seeing record violence.
But soldiers in Iraq are showing signs of improved mental health where violence is lower.
The army has teamed up with the national institute of mental health to study the growing problem of suicide among military personnel.
