The Joyce Harrison Memorial Poker run on Tybee Island Sunday was better than every before. It was full house.
More than 150 people came out to ride from bar to bar; raising awareness about the importance of early cancer detection and money to fund free mammograms.
Organizers gave away several thousand dollars in donated prizes while more than $4,000 was raised in Joyce's name to be donated to the Anderson Cancer Institute to fund to free mammograms for women who can’t afford them, don’t have insurance or whose insurance won’t pay for the procedure.
“Just to see this many people get together over one thing and try to make a difference, it's a big deal," says Brett Harrison, Joyce’s son.
“It's nice just to keep her name around and her memory, just to hear her name and hear everybody talk about her and to kind of re-live a little bit of her being around is always fun for us, I mean we miss her, but we're glad to be able to do this for her,” explains Eric Thomas, Joyce’s friend and owner of Huc-A-Poos.
