A restaurant founded by firefighters continues to give back to their own. Today, Firehouse Subs made a $15,000 equipment donation to the Pooler Fire Department.
The department received two different air bag systems that can lift an 18 wheeler off the ground. (a high-pressure air bag system and a medium pressure high-lift air bag set)
The department couldn't afford the air bags, so they asked the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for the equipment.
It's unbelievable. At this point the growth is so big in the city of Pooler, we're just having trouble keeping up with our basic things. Things like these air bags, we don't use them every day, but they fill a need that nothing else can do,” explains Chief Wade Simmons with the City of Pooler Fire Department.
"It's great. They're in need. They can't necessarily get it so we're able to provide that for them so giving back to the community, that's awesome,” says Chad Weaver, franchisee for Firehouse Subs in Savannah.
Chief Simmons says they used them yesterday morning at an accident on I-95 and I-16.
With all the industry coming to the area, they'll be able to use the air bags if heavy equipment were to fall on someone.
