SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Three Savannah Neighborhoods prone to flooding and other drainage issues received some good news: some help is on the way.
The targeted neighborhoods are the area East of Waters Avenue by Gwinnett Street, Victory and Atlantic and Habersham Village.
The City Council was presented a variety of solutions... some costing as much as one hundred twenty million dollars.
While they have not voted on it the council is in favor of a smaller plan which city engineers feel will still alleviate the issues.
“I am so excited today. I am sure all the residents in the city are going to be excited today! We have finally come up with a doable plan. One that is affordable that we can actually do now,” explains Alderwoman Mary Osborne, who lives in one of the targeted neighborhoods.
The plan is actually made up of micro solutions. It involves a system of underground retention, or holding areas.
Unlike the large scale plan no homes will have to be demolished and the inconvenience of construction will be minimal.
