New Requests for Visitors During Flu Season

»  Comments | Post a Comment

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Memorial University Medical Center is modifying some of its visitation policies to protect patients, visitors, and employees during flu season. Though the changes specifically apply to the George and Marie Backus Children’s Hospital, including the neonatal unit, at MUMC, health officials ask that visitors refrain from visiting any patient care areas if they feel sick or think they may be catching something.

Beginning Monday, October 12, visitors at Backus Children’s Hospital and the neonatal units should observe the following guidelines:
• Only visitors over the age of 18 may visit the inpatient pediatric or neonatal areas. Limited visits from younger siblings for special circumstances may be arranged in advance. Talk to your child’s nurse to arrange a special visit.
• No more than two visitors per patient should be in the rooms at any time.
• All visitors should be healthy. No family members, friends, volunteers, vendors, clergy, students, or contractors with flu-like symptoms will be permitted in the patient rooms. Flu-like symptoms include fever, coughing, sneezing, sore throat, or upset stomach.
• If there is a chance that you could be coming down with something, please don’t visit until you are certain you are well again.
• In general, only children receiving treatment should be brought to MUMC. Please try to find alternate care for siblings so that they do not have to come to the hospital unnecessarily. This also applies to our Day Surgery area and our Outpatient Center.
• Please wash your hands thoroughly or use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting a patient’s room or any other areas around the hospital.

If you have specific questions about our restricted visiting policy, call 912-350-8200.
