The Savannah Chatham Metro Police department has to look at cutting roughly four million dollars from their budget. This is after the county approved a six hundred thousand dollar cut in their 20-10 budget. By doing that the city feels the county violated the funding formula which was agreed upon in the 2003 merger.
However, because the county decreased their contribution the city says it will also.
County Chairman Pete Liakakis is hopeful something can be worked out.
“We are gonna have that worked out because we are still looking. If we can find any other area that has funding that would be ideal for our community both the city and the county,” says Liakakis.
Liakakis says if the cuts do take place no one will be laid off and police services will not be decreased,
