About 40 people upset with this year's property tax assessments descended on the Effingham County Commission meeting Tuesday morning.
Just a few of the group called "We The Taxpayers" stood and spoke to commissioners about their concerns...but they handed over a petition requesting the commissioners pass a resolution asking the Board Of Tax Assessors to nullify the recent re-assessments of property. Group founder, Ruth Lee said, “Effingham County, unfortunately, is getting the reputation for having the highest taxes in the region and that is not what we want to be known as.” The group plans to show up at the Commission Chambers again Tuesday evening for a scheduled 7 p-m meeting of the Board Of Assessors.
