It was once home to cows and chickens.. now pooler is suddenly become the place to be for folks who don't want to live in Savannah.
Several brand new apartment complexes have already been built, a brand new Publix grocery store is on the way, and a big box retail store is looking to be the next business cashing in on Pooler's popularity.
But the latest strike for Pooler is Frames and Games.
Frames and Games is a 37 thousand square foot bowling alley, lazer tag, gaming and food complex.
But it's not just about playing. For folks in Pooler it signifies a change for the bigger and better, and for the general manager the completion of a dream.
Screw guns and hammers are the sounds of progress in Pooler. Dozens of workers making sure the $6.4 million dollar Frames and Games will be the best place to go.
"It's like a giant puzzle," explains General Manager Rick Danis. "You work at the edges first, then separate where the sides are going to be, and then the other parts of the puzzle and it comes together."
Each drywalled frame, every finished surface gets General Manager's Rick Danis' dream one step closer to completion. He's been working for 13 years to bring this entertainment hub to the area, and folks are telling him they appreciate it.
"The biggest comment is it's about time," smiles Danis. "It's definitely needed on the Westside."
What's needed now is a few more weeks of work and patience. The 2 by 4's and planks will eventually become 28 bowling lanes. The open areas, party rooms.
"We've got birthday parties wanting to book already in October and that's when we are planning to open," says Danis. "We may not get them all in right away, but we will get them in."
The mural on the wall is painted by SCAD students, and the first sign that a finished product is near. Soon they aren't the only ones who will be working here.
The last time WSAV mentioned the possibilities of jobs, rick got flooded with applications from around the country
"Pretty surprising when you get an application from Tennessee or Ohio," laughs Danis. "Especially in a little town of Pooler."
This is just the beginning for all of Pooler. When Frames and Games is finished groundbreaking could start right over here, on this mound which will be a movie theater."
Before that day comes, Danis hopes for more blue skies ahead, and waits until the sounds of construction change.
"It will be a different sound," says Danis "The pins crashing, the first one will sound the best."
The complex is expected to open by the end of October, and will be looking for as many as 75 people to work the lanes and games.
Frames and Games is holding a job fair at the Hawthorne Suites hotel on Pooler Parkway near the airport Friday and Saturday, September 18 and 19th.
Friday 3-8pm.
Saturday 11am-6pm
