Many of us know that shrimp and grits is a southern favorite. But did you also know that there's actually a festival in honor of the delectable and iconic dish? This weekend, an estimated 12,000 visitors are expected to make their way down the coast as the Jekyll Island Authority and the Georgia Tourism Foundation present "Shrimp & Grits: The Wild Georgia Shrimp Festival".
The event kicks off Friday, September 18th with a $3 "Shrimp Sample Night". Local island restaurants like
Halyards, Tramici, Southern Soul BBQ, and the Jekyll Island Club Hotel will serve up their version of shrimp and grits.
Dan Dickerson, owner of Latitude 31 Restaurant on Jekyll Island talks with News 3 Coastal Sunrise Anchor Kim Gusby about what's in store.
