The FBI has now joined the investigation of an alleged racial attack on a Georgia woman and her young daughter.

Police say last week, 35-year-old Army reservist Tasha Hill and her 7-year-old daughter were physically and verbally assaulted when another customer bumped the door into the little girl at a Clayton County, Georgia restaurant.

Hill says when she asked him to please be more careful, the man allegedly began beating and kicking her while screaming racial slurs all in front of her daughter.

Police say 47-year-old Troy Dale West, Jr. of South Georgia admitted to the attack and is charged with misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct and felony cruelty to children.

Civil rights activists called the charges a slap on the wrist and are demanding more action.

The FBI says it is looking into the possibility of an additional federal hate crime charge.

West is free on $12,000 bond.

The district attorney says she will seek heavier felony charges when the case goes to a grand jury in a month or so.

Hill and her attorneys are asking that Cracker Barrel release the security video of the attack which is said to be very graphic but the district attorney's office says the video is now part of the ongoing investigation.
