SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Metro Police are still on the lookout for a man wanted in Savannah's latest murder, while the victim's family speaks out about the pain the crime has caused.
Thomishea McClendon, 26, was shot to death early Sunday morning at West 57th Street and Crane Street.
Ida McClendon said her daughter was a fun-loving young woman who loved to dance and take care of her family. "It was unreal. It felt like... It just felt like we were all having a dream, and we hadn't woke up," she said.
Thomishea McClendon's three young children, ages 12, 10, and 4, are now left without their mother, after she was shot to death near their Crane Street home. A white wreath is hanging from the door.
"She just had gave a birthday Saturday for the 4 year-old, and we was all out here enjoying ourselves, and she was laughing and uplifted and all that," said her mother.
Relatives and friends are now grieving for the young woman they called "Shorty".
"Words can't describe her, my sister. No matter what you had to come to her to talk about, most of the time she had an answer," said god-sister Desira Lawton.
"I have a 16 month-old son that came over looking for her, and she wasn't there and it's hard to deal with without her," said god-sister Jamesha Norman as tears started rolling down her face.
The family said they hope Thomishea's killer is caught soon.
"I just ask God to let him, the gentleman who killed her, to come and give himself up and let us have closure," said Gertrude Mack, Thomishea's aunt.
Though Ida McClendon is dealing with the pain, she said she is happy to know her daughter is in a better place.
"She don't hurt no more... She's at peace," she said.
The family is asking for the community's help with funeral expenses. If you would like to help, you can make a donation to the Thomishea McClendon memorial account at any Carver State Bank
Police are looking for Mik-hail Hayes, 21, for questioning in McClendon's death. The two are believed to have been acquaintances. Hayes is also wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
