Chatham County sheriff’s deputies arrested John Reedy late Monday afternoon following a brief pursuit on a Superior Court warrant for Theft by Deception. Deputies say Reedy was spotted by members of the Investigators Unit in the area of Bee Road and Anderson Street. A marked unit attempted a traffic stop but deputies say Reedy attempted to elude them by traveling south on the Truman Parkway eventually striking a curb and disabling his vehicle in the parking lot of Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Reedy then escaped his car with a backpack and fled on foot. He was found and arrested after a brief pursuit but did not have the backpack with him at the time of the arrest. Deputies searched the area in which Mr. Reedy was found and located the backpack in a dumpster. Deputies say when they searched the bag they discovered a loaded gun, over $1900 dollars in cash, and a small amount of marijuana.
In addition to the charges listed on the warrant, deputies charged Mr. Reedy with fleeing to elude, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, child endangerment, possession of marijuana, as well as several traffic violations related to the pursuit.
