More heavy rain is predicted for much of north Georgia as it tries to recover from flooding caused by earlier downpours, and the National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch Friday.
The weather service says the greatest chance of heavy rain in
the next few days is late Saturday. The flood watch includes the Atlanta area and extends up into the north Georgia mountains.
With the soil already saturated from earlier rainfall, there is an added threat that more rain could cause rapid rises in area creeks and streams.
President Barack Obama issued a disaster declaration for Georgia on Thursday, ordering federal aid to assist state and local
recovery efforts in the wake of massive flooding this week.
The declaration covers five counties: Carroll, Cobb, Paulding, Douglas and Cherokee.
Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Georgia Friday morning to tour the flood areas and meet with affected families.
