Traffic on the Islands Expressway waws down to one lane coming into Savannah Saturday. The reason? A major sewage spill.

This is what we know...the sewage line had a split in it...and that line sends sewage from Wilmington Island to the President Street Treatment Plant.

Crews repaired it after there were reports of a bad odor in the area Friday night. Workers couldn't find the leak in the dark so the search continued Saturday morning.

The spill was finally contained around 10am. Vacuum trucks cleaned up as much of the spill as possible, but more than 100,000 gallons spilled into Richardson Creek.

Under state guidelines, this qualifies as a major spill.
