SAVANNAH, Ga. -- A fun way to address a serious issue: guys at Savannah State University walking around campus in women's shoes.
The march is called "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes", and it's an effort to raise awareness about violence against women.
Each participant had to wear some sort of ladies' shoes, symbolizing the hardships women face. The guys said they didn't mind the discomfort to spread the important message.
"Personally I know a couple of people who have been victims of domestic violence and been raped. so it's very close and dear to my heart, I know a lot of friends who have gone through situations like that. I'm still helping them deal with their problems so it's really close to me," said student Nick Allen.
"I'm out here to support the cause, to support the cause against abuse against women because I know it happens a lot. People don't know that my mom actually was a part of this, so I want to make sure I come out here and show support and make sure that stuff like this doesn't happen," said student Chris McMullen.
The 2nd annual event at SSU was sponsored by the groups, The Lighthouse Project and Men Can Stop Rape, and is part of the observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
