With 102 years under her belt, Anna Kubita may be the Lowcountry's expert on longevity.
"I didn't do boats- no cruises- that was out for me,” Kubita said Friday on her 102nd birthday.
That might not be what you wanted to hear but that's also what makes her unique. Ask Kubita what she thinks about the times these days compared to the way-back-thens and she'll tell it like it is.
"Well, we just lived without fear or thinking “what's going to happen?” And it doesn't seem to be too safe around. I look at the TV and I turn it off. I don't like what I see. All these murders. And they're getting away with it,” she said.
She says removing the negative from your life is one step toward reaching that post-100 mark. Keep your mind busy and stay active.
"She pretty much runs the second floor. She's always at the exercises, she's always moving,” Sean Doran at Riverside at Belfair said.
Having a loving family is key-especially those ones who make you smile.
"It is awesome and it's great to have a grandmother 102 years old,” Sofia O’Sullivan said.
And feeling good about yourself-that certainly doesn't do you harm.
"I can hear better than anyone here. And that is a great thing for here,” Kubita said.
But really, it all boils down to the basics: those rules and guidelines that sound so simple that are quite tough to follow.
"Don't do anything you shouldn't be doing and live happy,” Kubita said.
Kubita says it's only the past few months that she feels she's started to lose some strength but they still call her “Speedy” around Riverside.
