Times are tough, but people at Saturday's Dental Fair were all smiles.
They had a lot to smile about because Dental Health Agencies from all over Savannah dedicated their time and services, providing free oral health screenings and helpful tips on keeping teeth in tip-top-shape.
Dental care can be expensive, and many times people end up having to pay out of pocket…
One guest explains,
"I’m here to get my teeth checked to see if they are OK. I haven't been to a dentist in a while... I don't even have insurance right now and I just turned 18."
Unfortunately dental health care is one of the first things families cut in order to save on budget.
Congressman John Barrow says there is more to it.
"Some of the bad things that happen in your mouth don't stay there. They can cause infection, they can get into your blood stream and cause heart disease and you can suffer strokes in result."
Putting off basic maintenance can lead to very costly work to repair broken or damaged teeth.
But many of the groups that assisted at the fair today are known for providing quality care at a reduced cost or sometimes at no cost to the patient... saving time, your teeth, and even your life in the long run.
"If you take good care of your teeth, they will take good care of you."
