Authorities say a woman is dead after a confrontation with police outside a Delta Air Lines facility near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

Clayton County Police Lt. Tina Daniel says authorities believe the woman was looking for a Delta employee at the Delta Technical Operations Center.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead says at least one officer opened fire after the woman, who was armed, went past a security checkpoint in her car.

Bankhead says an autopsy will be held Tuesday, and investigators are trying to determine the circumstances of the shooting. Bankhead says it's not immediately known whether the woman died from police gunfire or a self-inflicted wound.

Daniel would not describe the relationship between the woman and the Delta employee.

In a statement to The Associated Press, Delta said no Delta employees were injured.
