“My first reaction was, if they are going to raise the prices then the minimum wage and wages need to go up as well. I think the Obama Administration needs to step in and relieve this problem because it can cause a deficit and cause hardship on a lot of people,” explains Enga Benton who says she will be forced to cut back on some spending.
“No matter how high it goes up we need it. We need to have gas to maneuver if you have a vehicle. I just try to weather the storm and hope things get better,” says an optimistic Marion Braswell.
“This is going to affect me big time because I am on the unemployment list myself. I need it and I work hard for my money and everything and its going to hurt,” says Joey Myers.
According to gas buddy dot com the average price in Savannah is two dollars and eighty three cents... which while high is still lower than the national average...
The Lundberg survey which sampled prices at twenty five hundred gas stations throughout the country found the most expensive gas was in Long Island, New York at three twenty one...
The cheapest... Denver, Colorado at two sixty one.
The reason for the spike, a weak dollar and the price of crude oil going up by about eight dollars per barrel.
But contrary to what you may think the money being made off of the price hike has actually fallen.
Currently gas stations are making less than six cents per gallon.
