The chilly winter temperatures didn't stop military couples from tying the knot on Tybee Island Wednesday.
Sixteen couples got married or renewed their vows. Some of the couples even braved the cold for a beach ceremony.
It was all part of Savannah's Weddings for Warriors project.
Later, all the couples and their families gathered for a joint reception at the Ocean Plaza's Dolphin Reef restaurant.
"To show our respect and our appreciation to the soldiers who go overseas and put their life on the line for our freedom here in the United States, we feel it's the least we can do, a small gesture of our appreciation for them," said Harry Spirides, CEO of Ocean Plaza Beach Resort.
This is just the second year for the Weddings for Warriors project and the first time it has been held on Tybee Island. The wedding gowns were donated by designer Alfred Angelo and many local businesses donate their services.
