NC Landslide Buries Woman In House

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

This is how one NC woman describes her harrowing experience in a landslide this weekend: "As it came by the house you could hear the debris hitting the side of the house, mud splattering really loud on the windows and house shuttering."

Soon after that, Tammy Jones had to be dug out of the mud after a massive landslide. It happened in Maggie Valley Saturday. Geologists say the landslide was 175 feet wide, 30 feet high and traveled about the length of ten football fields down the mountain.

A collapsed retaining wall at the top of the mountain may have caused the landslide and recent snow and rain may have contributed to the slide.
