According to the National Cancer Institute, approximately 10,400 children under age 15 are diagnosed with cancer each year. While great progress has been made in treating childhood cancer, it is still the leading cause of death from disease among U.S. children over one year of age, and cure rates for some childhood cancers remain below 50 percent.
Window World, Inc., the nation’s largest replacement window company, is launching a new fundraising program in partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. The program, themed Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids, is part of the company’s charitable foundation, Window World Cares, which raises money exclusively to support the lifesaving mission of St. Jude. Through the Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids program, Window World aims to reach its end goal of raising $1.4 million for St. Jude – the hospital’s daily operating cost.
As part of the Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids program, Window World is sponsoring a St. Jude car to be driven by racing great John Andretti at NASCAR’s Daytona 500 on February 14, 2010. This will mark the first promotion for the Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids program.
Donations to Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids will be accepted in all Window World stores, here in Savannah and at (more than 200 across the country). In addition, a special Web page and texting program for donations to the Opening Windows for St. Jude Kids will be activated in February. WSAV-TV is also proud to partner with St. Jude Children's Hospital for the Dream Home Giveaway
