UPDATE: Kevin Johnson is now also facing a charge of 1st degree cruelty to children. He was denied bond Monday morning and the case has been bound over to Superior Court.
Effingham County Sheriff’s Investigators have made an arrest in connection with the murder of a two year old child.
27 year old Kevin Johnson of Rincon, has been arrested and charged with murder.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2010, Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to 30 Aspen Drive, Rincon, GA on a report of a child unresponsive and not breathing.
The child, identified as Melanie Haynes, two years of age, died the following day at Memorial University Medical Center.
An autopsy indicated that the child suffered from blunt force trauma to the head along with multiple other injuries which resulted in her death.
Johnson is currently being held in the Effingham County Jail.
