“Because I represent the entire city to and the port goes through my district too
you are elected mayor not the king?”
“I stand by that thank you very much!”
“I'm glad you stand by something for a change!”
Remember that? It was all over who was going to China and how much it would cost. But a new travel policy was supposed to make everything right. Right?
Unfortunately, News Three Community Reporter Alice Massimi says the answer is......guess again.
The next stop on the council travelogue is Austria.
Mayor Otis Johnson and Alderman Larry Stuber are going to Austria to try to woo a large world conference on sustainable energy to come here in 2011.
It should be said that most of the council supports the mayor's trip. There are two sticking points.
Why is Stuber going on the city's dollar? and why didn't the mayor follow policy and get council approval?
“I knew exactly what it said. It requires the council to vote on the mayor to travel out of the country but it was not my responsibility and there are others who will differ with me and that's fine. I'm not going to go around the chairman of the board,” explains Alderman Stuber.
“The policy wasn't followed. It was egregious and really one of the main authors of that who worked with me on that policy is globetrotting on the taxpayers’ dime,” says Alderman Tony Thomas referring to Stuber.
According to documents I obtained the trip for two will cost roughly 62 hundred dollars.
After the arguments and accusations, the council approved it all 7 to 2....some saying it was too late in the game to turn back.
