A News Three follow up tonight...
For more than two years News Three has reported on the dangerous intersection at Jimmy DeLoach Parkway and Benton Boulevard.
The site of three deadly accidents and several other serious accidents we pushed for the city and or county to do something to make it safer. At times it was a blame game... but we stayed on them... and tonight we are happy to report progress has been made.
A traffic signal has been placed at the intersection and will be operational starting tomorrow morning at 10:30am.
The city has had the light flashing all this week so people can get used to the new signal. In the meantime they are taking some other safety precautions. .
“What we will do for the first several months is we actually have a strobe that will be on the light so when the light turns red there will be a red strobe that will catch your attention. That will remain for several months till people get used to the fact the light is here,” explains the City of Savannah’s Bob Scanlon.
The city is also planning on placing a light at Jimmy DeLoach and Crossgate...it's about a mile down the road. There is no word on when that light will go up.
