Twentieth century coiled baskets, djembes, jewelry, sweetgrass baskets- African inspired jewelry and art. In the early 20th century in the Old Fort (the eastside of Savannah) and Cuyler Brownville communities, African men sewed sweetgrass baskets. It's a tradition that goes back Africa. Along Ogeechee Road, James Collier and others used to make drums similar to the djembes of West Africa. In the Tin City and Springfield Communities copper jewelry and wood carvings were made reminiscent of African traditions.
