Sam Mongin of Savannah was one of the greatest third basemen with the Negro Leagues at the turn of the century. He played for the best teams of that era- Philadelphia Giants, Brookly Royal Giants, the NY Lincoln Stars and others. Decades later the Hilton Head Blue Jays would produce Dan Driessen who would play with the Red Machine - Cincinnati Reds.
