CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has
nearly a year left in office, but his marriage is almost over.
Sanford's divorce from his wife, Jenny, is expected to be
finalized on Friday in family court in Charleston.
The first lady filed for divorce in December. The former Wall
Street executive said she had unsuccessfully tried to reconcile
with her husband after he disappeared last summer, returning to
publicly confess a yearlong affair with an Argentine woman he
called his soulmate.
Sanford is the first sitting South Carolina governor to divorce.
In December, he also became the first governor to be censured by
the state's lawmakers.
Jenny Sanford and the couple's four sons moved out of the
Governor's Mansion last year. She has released a memoir about her
ordeal.
