This Saturday the City of Savannah is proud to take part in the first of four Free Tax Return Preparation Super Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, 812 W. 36th St.
Residents can get their tax returns prepared for FREE by IRS-trained volunteers. For the first time, this year residents will also have the option of receiving a low-cost Alternative Rapid Anticipation Loan (ARAL). Offered for a fraction of the cost charged at commercial tax preparation sites, ARALs allow you to get your refund within 48 hours. These rapid refunds are only available through Feb. 13.
The other three Super Saturdays will be held at the Coastal Georgia Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 30, Feb. 6, and Feb. 13.
The City of Savannah's Economic Development Department is sponsoring four other Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites through April 15. They are located at:

SAVANNAH ENTREPRENEURIAL CENTER 801 E. Gwinnett Street, Savannah (Open Mondays & Wednesdays, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION 1816 Abercorn Street, Savannah (Open Thursdays, 5-8 p.m.)
ST. MARY'S COMMUNITY CENTER 812 West 36th (Wednesdays, 4-7 p.m.)
These and more than a dozen other VITA sites throughout the community are part of the larger Chatham-Savannah Asset Development Coalition, and can be found on the organization's website at csadc.net or by calling 447-5577. Last year volunteers at the VITA sites prepared 3,828 tax returns, helping residents claim $4.1 million in refunds, including $2.2 million in Earned Income Tax Credit available to those on limited incomes.
Those who attend the Super Saturday events or any of the VITA sites should bring a valid identification, Social Security card for all family members who will be claimed on the return, and any W-2, 1099, interest income or child care information forms.
