(SAVANNAH, GA, Januray 26, 2010) A family of four was left homeless on Savannah's south side Tuesday when fire raced through the attic of their home on Leghorn Street. All inside were able to escape safely after a neighbor called to alert them to smoke coming from their attic. Southside firefighters say when they reached the scene, the roof and attic of the home were fully involved. They believe it started around the chimney. The family had been using their fireplace to stay warm in recent cold weather. Fire damage was contained to the attic of the one story home, but the rest did receive water damage. No one was injured. The American Red Cross is assisting the family.
