The Department of Defense says a Fort Stewart soldier has been killed in a non-combat related incident in Iraq. Officials say Sgt. Johnny W. Lumpkin, 38, died July 2 in Balad, Iraq from injuries he sustained in an incident the day before in Taji, Iraq.
Sgt. Lumpkin was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Ga. He was from Columbus, Ga.
The Department of Defense did not release any other details on the incident.
