Car theft, unfortunately, isn't all that unusual. One Lowcountry man is finding that out. Although his car was found the next day -- the inside was cleaned out. And it's what was inside his car that makes this story anything but typical.
Golf instructor Brad Clayton can play the game of golf this way, but it's not the way he's practiced the past several years.
"I have an arm. A prosthetic arm that allows me to swing with two arms rather than just the one arm,” Clayton said.
Clayton lost his right arm in a machinery accident ten years ago but was determined not to let go of his profession. So with that in mind he and an engineer mastered a special prosthetic in about six years time.
"It slides up the shaft of the golf club to the grip and jams on and rotates like a wrist would do on this arm,” Clayton said.
But now he's back at square one after thieves cleaned his car out of everything inside it last week.
"It was the perfect storm. The keys were in it...all my stuff was in it,” Clayton said.
Including his arm. Clayton realizes they hit the jackpot with his laptop, clothes, golf clubs and more---but to take an item that can do no good to anyone but him-he doesn't understand. But he's hoping somehow he can get it back.
"If they have it, instead of them just throwing it in the garbage if I can just get it back- and let them have everything else I can replace. But my arm, information for my kids, things that can help no one else but me."
If you have any information that could help authorities recover Clayton's specially designed arm and other property, call the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department at (843) 524-2777.
