J'miah Nabawi is a body of healthy energy. The Savannah storyteller is getting kids at the Salvation Army off their seats and on their feet.
"Unfortunately today there's a lot of eating traditions that need to be left alone because they can create obesity."
So J'miah created a unique fitness program that mixes storytelling about food and eating habits with exercise. A workout filled with fun, but there's also a serious message.
"We're telling stories. We're getting active. The more we see this, the more they see it as well. The more it can become a habit and become consciously aware, oh maybe I shouldn't have that drink with corn syrup in it."
1 in 3 kids in America is overweight or obese. J'miah feels it is his responsibility to help improve their health. "In the story there's action. This is how you can take that action and apply it to yourself. And that's the story I want to get across to families as well."
These youngsters say the message is right on time. "It was very nice for him to come here and tell us about stories and how to be healthy"
A simple important experience J'miah hopes they will remember and share with their parents.
J'miah calls his health and wellness storytelling program -- tell-aerobics.
He's committed to continue fighting obesity and he's currently trying to get the attention of First Lady Michelle Obama.
J'miah wants the first lady to bring her “Let's Move” campaign to Savannah.
