Local singer has a stroke and has defied the odds to not only stay alive but is showing signs that her brain is rewiring itself making some type of recovery a possibility.
She can only communicate by blinking her eyes and using an alphabet chart to “spell” out her needs when someone else points to the letters.
With a Dasher computer she could communicate more effectively and have a better chance for survival as “locked-in” patients typically have a low survival rate due to their diminished will to live. (Her husband Rob Stuart is the point person on those details)
Her medical bills exceed $1 million dollars and she has no health insurance like millions of Americans.
She is at a nursing home and is not at Memorial’s Rehabilitation Center because of “the system.” She is awaiting Medicaid in hopes that she can have decent medical care and the tools and support needed to rehabilitate.
Friends are doing their own physical therapy to help her recover while we wait.
A group of friends decided to do a unique, multi-venue event to raise money for the computer and medical and rehabilitation expenses. (David Whidden is your contact) (Bill Hodgson is her best friend and her band member)
We are operating under Wilmington Island Wishes which is an official 501(c)3 Non-profit. All tax deductible gifts should be made out to Wilmington Island Wishes.
This started out to be 5-8 venues. Now we have over 21 venues .The official event day is Thursday, July 29th, but many venues are doing things prior and just after. We have asked them to make it their own and be unique.
Some venues are doing luau’s, poker tournaments, belly dancing expositions, 50/50 raffles, drinking games, balloon pops with fun prizes…
All venues will be collection donations in buckets as labeled below and selling “Lori Bucks” to plaster all around their venue. Bay Street Blues and JJ Bonerz are quite the sites to behold!
