ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA, July 30, 2010 (2 pm) United Water officials have issued a boil water advisory to homeowners and businesses on both sides of Frederica Road from Redfern Drive north to West Point on St. Simons Island. The boil water advisory does not affect customers on Lawrence Drive.
The boil water advisory is being issued to customers in this area due to test results showing the presence of bacteria in the water supply. Immediate action has been taken to determine the source of the problem and make corrections. The company’s emergency personnel collected repeat samples immediately upon notification of the positive result and analysis results will be available later this evening.
All customers in the affected area will have to boil their water for one minute for the following: drinking, cooking or baking, making ice cubes, taking medication, brushing teeth, washing food, mixing baby formula or food, mixing juices or drinks, feeding pets and all other consumption. Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities: showering, washing dishes or clothes.
The company’s water quality specialists have taken water quality repeat samples on Thursday evening to ensure the quality of the water. It typically takes between 24-48 hours to obtain results. They will be reported to the state.
“We understand that this boil water advisory is a major inconvenience for the residents of Glynn County,” said Morris Baisden, project manager for United Water. “Our first priority is to ensure the quality of the water in the system.”
