It was an enthusiastic afternoon Thursday at the Savannah-Chatham County school district's Bull Street offices.
The school social workers hosted a silent auction complete with dinners out, hotel stays, artwork and more.
All of the money raised is going to the American Red Cross for the Haiti relief efforts.
"We're constantly asking for help for our students and families and so we wanted to give back something during school social work week this year," says Chiquetta Mitchell, a school social worker.
Between the silent auction and a bake sale, the school social workers raised close to $1,500.
The social work team plans to hold the auction as an annual event.
The SCCPSS social workers are under the direction of Dr. Quentina Miller-Fields, Senior Director of Pupil Personnel Services. Dr. Quentina Miller-Fields said, “The social workers decided to hold the event as their way of giving back.” The event was successful due to the collaboration of the social workers and several contributions from local merchants. Contributors: AVIA Hotel, Baker’s Pride, Barnes Restaurant, Carey Hilliard’s Restaurants, Charles Rudd Color Salon & Boutique, Donna’s Delicious Delights, Emme’s Designs, Fuddruckers, The Inn at Ellis Square, Kim Lewis, The Mansion on Forsyth Park, and individual donations from the Social Work and Pupil Personnel Department of SCCPSS.
