Savannah's New Covenant Church has a vision of changing lives on a daily basis. The church, located on the corner of Bull and 38th, is on a mission- to not only impact its members, but the life of the community. They're starting with the hungry. Every first Sunday has been designated as "Souper Sunday"... an opportunity to feed and reach out to those in need.
"The Souper Sunday ministry is a ministry designed to impact the community surrounding the church," says lead pastor, Rev. Andrew Young. "In short we ask members of the church and people in the community who can to provide sandwiches and/or cans of soup and we then use the church facilities to prepare and organize the donations to feed those who are hungry."
No income or personal family questions are asked and they're are no forms to fill out. Only a first name is required for a name tag.
Here's how you can help:
Donations and volunteers are needed.
In an effort to keep the process streamlined for volunteers people are asked to donate the following foods: sandwiches made of turkey, ham and/or cheese and chicken noodle and vegetable. Sandwiches should be individually wrapped or bagged and labeled. Soups can be left in the can, but if cooked should be enough to serve at least twenty-five people and in containers that don't need to be returned.
Any left over food is taken to area homeless settlements to feed even more people.

New Convenant is located at 2201 Bull Street. Set-up begins at noon. Serving begins at 12:15. Lunch will be served through 1:30.
