SAVANNAH, Ga. -- People in Georgia, California, Maine and other places gathered Friday night for a nationwide candlelight vigil. They hoped to bring attention to the case of a missing Savannah college student.
Bryce Tarter, 19, has been missing for more than a month. As police continue their search, family and friends came to the Armstrong Atlantic State University campus, where Bryce was last seen, for an event they called "Candles for Bryce".
They prayed by the light of the candles they held, hoping that someone would hear their plea.
His parents trying to stay strong as the days and weeks pass.. but fearing the worst.
"I'm terrified I'll forget the smell of his hair... the sound of his voice or him coming in and saying 'I love you, Mom,' or calling me and telling me that he loves me. That scares me," said Michaella Tarter, Bryce's mother.
"It's really hard, really hard. Some days you have good days and some days bad days," said Lounette Pughsley, his grandmother.
The family gave thanks for the outpouring of support, as shown by the gathering at AASU and around the country.
"Family, friends, people that didn't even really know Bryce before this happened... It's touched all of us," said his father Blake Tarter.
Bryce's disappearance is still a puzzle, as the family's heartache grows deeper.
"He hasn't been seen. The truck is still missing. He's still out there, and we still need everybody's help and support to continue to look for him," said Blake Tarter. "Our family will never give up until we find Bryce," he added.
"My son did not just walk away. He is here, and I need whoever has any information to come forward," said Michaella Tarter.
People in other places also held vigils for the missing teen Friday. A small group of folks in Yucca Valley, California, gathered at 5:00 p.m. PST in support of Bryce and his family.
About 40 people gathered in Bryce's honor at the waterfront park in St. Mary's, Georgia. About 50 to 70 people showed up in Kittery, Maine, plus those who came to other vigils in Rincon and South Carolina.
Police are asking people to be on the lookout for Bryce Tarter's truck, a 2000 white Nissan Frontier with Maine license plate 9447QD. The vehicle has decals of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons on the back windows.
Anyone with information is asked to call AASU Police at 912-344-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020.
Bryce's mother Michaella has to return to Newport this weekend so his sister can return to school, but she said being away will probably strengthen her resolve.
