SPRINGFIELD, Ga. -- Authorities in Effingham County said the remains of a body were found Monday morning and it may be the body of a missing person. "We were actually brought to the scene by an individual who had knowledge there were skeletel remains at the scene.," says David Ehsanipoor of the Effinghamg County Sheriff's office. "So, we've been following tips on missing persons cases for the past several years, there are a couple of them in Effingham County that people may be aware of, so we've been following any tips and someone came to us with a tip there were skeletal remains at this location."
Sheriff investigators remained at the scene for several hours to try and determine the circumstances surrounding the death. The body will be sent to the GBI crime lab in Savannah for an autopsy.
The remains were found in a wooded area about 50 feet off Ardmore Oaky Road near the Screven County line.
Sheriff's officials tell News 3 they do not believe these are the remains of 19 year-old Bryce Tarter, an Armstrong Atlantic State University student who's been missing from Savananah since January 31.
They say the person appears to have been dead for months. Authorities cannot say at this time if the person died a violent death or from natural causes.
