A mother is devastated after her 15-year old son, Daniel Head, called Daniel Gale by his family was found dead this afternoon after going to scout turkey hunting locations with his step-father yesterday.
Offiials began searching a swampy area of the woods in McIntosh County early this morning. Between 2:30 and 3 p.m., one of 2 Georgia State Patrol helicopters located Daniel's body. Officials are working to get him out of the woods. They believe the cause of death is hypothermia, however, Daniel's body will be examined by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to determine the exact cause of death.
Susan Gale says that her son and husband left around 1 p.m. Sunday and headed into a swampy area off of Possum Point Road in Jesup so that they could scout turkey hunting sites. They were supposed to return by 7 p.m. Susan watched the Oscars and when her son and husband weren't home by the end of the awards show, she knew something was wrong. Her husband, Brian Gale, called her, telling her that they were lost in the woods.
"They'd been walking a lot and the water is real high and I think 8 oclock last night, I think daniel, he was just exhausted and he just couldn't go no further and daniel instead of carry him and the weapons he just said stay right here and i'll be right back and of course it didn't work out like that," explains Susan Gale.
