Celtic Cross Ceremony Honors Americans of Irish Descent

This year's St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal, Dennis Herb laid the wreath in honor of the city's Irish ancestors and the contributions they made.

Flags representing the thirty-four counties and four provinces of Ireland were carried in a procession through downtown Savannah this afternoon ending near the Celtic Cross in Emmet Park.
This year's St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal, Dennis Herb laid the wreath in honor of the city's Irish ancestors and the contributions they made.

"This ceremony celebrates our ancestors and our forefathers who sacrificed and gave up everything they could to come to this island and make it a place where the irish could live," says Herb.

The first Celtic Cross Ceremony in Savannah was held on March 9, 19-86. The next St. Patrick's Day event will take place Tuesday afternoon at 4:30. Participants will march from Johnson Square to Madison Square in honor of Jasper Green.
