To his listeners, he's known as the "Big Dawg". But in just three months, E-93 radio personality Kenya Cabine hopes this alias will no longer fit... and neither will his clothes.
Kenya is on a mission- to shed forty pounds by May 21st.
It's all a part of the "Lose 2 Live" campaign... a weight loss challenge to raise money and awareness for the American Diabetes Association.
"My father, he's had a problem with his health," Cabine says. "He's only 62 years old. He had a heart attack and two strokes last year and right now he's on dialysis waiting for a kidney. I don't want to be like that."
So, he's hitting the gym one hour a day... 7 days a week.
With help from the YMCA of Coastal Georgia and lifestyle consultant, Clinton Gregory he hopes to reach his goal and help others along the way.
"Someone like Kenya," Gregory says, "who has a great presence in the community... African American male who doesn't suffer from diabetes but has championed this cause will shed a little light on the importance of really living a healthy lifestyle."
That means eating right and plenty of exercise. For Kenya, an aggressive work-out that takes him from the treadmill to the bicycle to the mat... a personal commitment to save his life and the lives of others.
"I want to live. I want to live a great, long life."
You can join Kenya in his campaign to lose weight. The last day to register for the Big Dawg Lose 2 Live weight loss challenge is March 15.
You can sign up at any Coastal Georgia YMCA.
Kenya is also accepting pledges and donations for every pound that he loses. All of the proceeds benefit the American Diabetes Association.
