US Army Rangers stationed here in Savannah were recognized for their actions in combat.
Today about eight hundred soldiers from the First Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment gathered to receive awards for their most recent deployment in support of Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Among the awards given out, five Bronze Stars, two of them with valor and several Purple Hearts.
“For me it’s not as big of a deal because I've been doing this longer but for the younger guys I think it’s important that we recognize them because they are my heroes,” explains Sergeant First Class Benjamin Stolba who received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
“It definitely is an honor to be among all these great men. I love serving right beside every one of them,” points out Sergeant Edward Hickman the recipient of a Purple Heart award.
The soldiers returned this past winter from their most recent deployment.
It was the unit’s 13th deployment since the war in Afghanistan began.
