SAVANNAH, GA (March 18, 2010) Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are close to completing a report on an officer-involved shooting that took place in Carver Heights on Monday. The investigation was turned over to the GBI by Interim Metro Police Chief Willie Lovett shortly after it occurred. Metro Police say an officer was sent to a home on the 1000 block of Hearn Street on a vandalism call. When what police say is a routine background check was performed, the caller was found to have several active warrants for his arrest. The responding officer says when he attempted to take 30 year old Larry Edward Wall into custody, the suspect ran from him, pulling a knife as the officer gave chase. Metro Police say Wall then stabbed the officer causing the officer to draw his gun and shoot Wall who was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was said to have been wearing a bullet-proof vest and suffered only a minor injury. The GBI is not releasing any new information on the incident at this time...but say they should wrap up their investigation by the first of next week. The results of the investigation will then be turned over to the Chatham County District Attorney.
